PRATS Memories of The 1996-1997 Season

Presidents Foreword (oh yes he is!) - from the 1996/97

Quick nurse, the screens. It’s happened again. Yes, it’s the second Prats Yearbook.

It doesn’t seem like a year has passed since the first one, does it? Or, does it? If you had to put up with the rantings of Two Bounce every week, the late night antics of Well Oiled and Just A Wee One then, The General’s travelers tales, Delboy’s serves, SuperNeal Faldo’s excuses, Decibel’s decibels and certain physical conditions in certain Prats’ nether regions, as I have to, a year can seem like a very long time, believe me.

Anyway, here it is, the annual (now there’s a thought Jonty, the Prats Annual. This was another Prats Production) at any rate, the annual deranged jottings of a Prat not too far from the edge. Matron says that unless it improves next year she'’ going to stop the Friday night pass altogether.

It’s been a great year though, with a successful league campaign won by SuperNeal, and the brief appearance of the Newsletter’s black and white Colour supplement (now in full colour). For invaluable assistance in that enterprise, Jonty Oscar Wild was voted "Clubman of the Year" at the very jolly End of Season Dinner, held, naturally enough, halfway through this season.

(I thought it was Prat of the Year! – Ed!)

Two other high points of the year were the signing of our tall blonde Physio, Julia, dragging a reluctant new Prat, Steve Decibel Thorpe in her wake, and the welcome return of none other than Two Bounce Stedham to the hallowed boards after a year of injury problems. Very welcome to Two Bounce that is.

Remember the celebrations as another Prat came of age?

It is probable that most Prats celebrate this because they know that younger Prats are catching them up in age.

No think about it, it makes sense. Say the average Prat (Prat A) is 50 and the youngest (Prat B) is say 30, i.e. "B" is 3/5ths their age, when Prat "A" was 40, Prat B was 20 i.e. 1/2 their age and when "A" was 30 Prat "B" was only 10 i.e. 1/3rd their age. So Prat "B" has gone from 1/3rd to 1/2 to 3/5ths so sooner or later Prat "B" will catch "A" up – great isn’t it.

Poor old Steve, eh!

Mmm?
Some people think that I should be embarrassed!
Talking of good old (young – damn it!) Decibel. Remember the Prats marriage of the year.  The adoration when they first met?

& then, that first night when Decibel’s act slipped! & Julia realised the full horror of it – she’d married a complete Prat!

The PRATS first league competition
& the finals . . . remember how difficult it was playing with four on the court!

PRAT OF THE YEAR?
And some asked why?

Pretty obvious I'd say!

The PRATS first outing with real cutlery!
And that postcard from our PRAT undercover and on a secret mission

We decided to put his claim and our PRATS technology to the test. The results are worrying to say the least!
