The Shambles

SHOCK! HORROR!

Is it true? The Shambles have disbanded?

Yes, I’m afraid it is. After eight years of trying to agree on an alternative name, and, singularly failing, they have decided that the easier route would be to split up.

The last ever gog took place on November 19th 2005 at Pirton Village Hall, where their fan turned up to see them play one last time in full make-up.

Besides being the final date on their farewell tour, this was also a charity fund- raising event, in aid of young people with Scoliosis of the spine.

The evening included performances by some friends of the band, including former members of The Shambles, some guy with a didgeridoo and concluded with a couple of hours of “Pants down Rock & Roll”, as it was once described to the band.

The line up will feature Dave (Comedy) Wallace, late of Middlesborough, and a small bus shelter near the Gents in Catford, on bass. David (Woody) Woodward on trumpet and quizzical look. Stuart (What key is this in?) Miller on second guitar. Tim (Clever beggar, who can play everybody else’s instrument just as well as them) Welch on keyboard, he’s the band’s token musician. Two relative new-comers, Christine Lord on lead vocals and that Red dress (She’s from Walkern you know). And Ashley Palmer on Drums, hat-boxes and magic-carpet. And finally, Steve (Ziggy Sawdust) Jaynes, of whom it was recently claimed, is the best guitarist in his end of Bunyan Close, (at least at Number 60).

It promised to be, and was, a memorable night!

These pages now allow us to remember the band that was a shambles, sorry was the Shambles
