Hello Jonty,
I live in Cumbria and find little Pirton is a million miles away. Just about on my last legs, I am making one last effort to find more details of my grand father James Artis 1858 - 1922. Strangely. his father was also a James Artis 1817 - 1856 who tragically died after drinking a "corrosive substance ". His occupation was Whitesmith in Pirton.
Sadly his wife Sarah 1856 -1924 ( nee Goldsmith ) died 2 years after James (1856 - 1924 ) leaving 5 little orphans one being my Grandfather James who settled here in Barrow Cumbria abt. 1879.
I would like to establish who looked after the orphans.
Can anyone help.

Hi
If you can ask for Eric's email address I can give him the information he is
looking for, Sarah Goldsmith was the sister of my 3 x great grandmother, and I
have her marriage to James Artis etc etc. I also know another direct descendant
of Sarah Goldsmith and James Artis who I
will contact tomorrow who will have even more information for Eric I'm sure.
