The following is general information provided by Clare Baines of the Pirton Local History Group  (March 2004)

Charles Day was a builder.  He lived in the house he built in Royal Oak Lane – where the Hardings now live.  It is possible at the time of the census, that he was working outside Pirton, and as journeys could only be made on foot or horseback/cart, men were away all the week and only returned at weekends.  No such thing as factory night shifts in 1891!

Charles and Elizabeth’s daughter, Alice Elizabeth, married George Abbiss who became Commissioner of Police and was knighted, so she was Lady Elizabeth Abbiss.  Grave and memorial in Pirton churchyard.
