Hello Jonty
My name is Carol Payson and I reside in Perth Western Australia.
I have been researching my family tree for about 6 months and found your website which has led to my query. (excellent source of information thanks)
The family names include KINGSLEY/DAWSON.
My 5th Great Grandparents were William Dawson who married Martha Kingsley at St. Mary's Hitchin Hertfordshire on 21st July 1781.
William and Martha had 9 children:
- Sarah Dawson b. 22 Feb. 1785
- Mary Dawson b. 19 Feb. 1787
- Jesse Dawson b. 30 Sept. 1790 (male)
- David Dawson b. 18 Oct. 1792
- John Dawson b. 21 April 1796
- Caleb Dawson b. 15 March 1800 (my 4th G/GFather) Strict Baptist
- Hannah Dawson b. 9 July 1802
- Robert Wright Dawson b. 20 Aug. 1804
- Eliza or Elizabeth Dawson b. 27 Oct. 1807
All children were baptised at Tilehouse Street Baptist Church in Hitchin. I think that Martha Kingsley is the daughter of John Kingsley and Mary Cain. Martha was born June 1764 in Pirton.....(I note that her mother Mary died in June 1764 so I am guessing her death was a result of childbirth).
Can any of your researchers confirm that I have the right Martha Kingsley. My reason for assuming that I have the right family line relates to the names Martha gave her children.
I cannot find any information on Martha's husband William Dawson, there were 2 William Dawson's born in the Hitchin area between 1753-1764 not sure which one he is.......I would be grateful if anyone could help me with this Dawson line.
