From Alan -

Dear Jonty.

Jane Lowndes in Aus. passed on your site address, I had log on to Pirton.org in the summer when a chap called Titmuss displayed a lot of paintings of the village. My family were born and bred in the village back in the 1880. Like most people I left it a bit late to research my family.  Jane thought there might be people in the village who could help us. I'm stuck on one John Titmuss who married Lydia Halfpenny in Pirton 22/10/1828, but he was a widow, I found two possibilities for his first wife Mary Day at Ickleford and Mary Hare in Holwell 8/4/1822 who both married a John Titmuss. John was born 27/1/1799 or 27/6/1797 and died 7/1868 and was probably the son of James and Mary Whittmore.

If anybody out there can help or would like to get in touch for any reason please. I must visit Pirton in the summer.

Best wishes Alan Titmuss

Reply from Joe Titmuss (resident in Pirton) :

Joe Titmuss: always lived in Pirton.

My parents: Edward (christened Hezekiah) Titmuss, Jane Handscomb.  My dad was the youngest of four children born to Arthur Titmuss and Anne Chamberlain.  They were:

Tom Chamberlain (later moved to Tottenham, North London)
Lydia Titmuss
Charles Titmuss, and
Hezekiah Titmuss - each one lived their whole life in Pirton.

I myself have a son Peter and two grandsons, Simon and James, who I trust will keep the Titmuss name going.

There were originally three other branches of the Titmuss name living in Pirton, who at one time were all related but only two survive at the present time.

If you can help in any way or would simply like to get in touch, please email or write at the address above or via me (Jonty Wild) on jontywild@pirton.org.uk
Even if you don't have email, but have a friend or family that do, why not give it a go and contact him that way, you'll be surprised how easy it is! - Jonty
