Searching for information of ancestors: Burton, Kingsley & HanscombeContact Details Please let the website have details of any new information you get for the benefit and encouragement of others. From: Rita Woodcock I wondered if there is anyone on the Pirton site, whose ancestry falls within the Handscombe name, that has any connections with the following people:- Samuel Handscombe, who married a Constance Hatley. Their son William Handscomb b.1802 in Great Shelford, Cambs, whose consort was a Sarah Francois. William was transported to Australia as a convict in 1823. Elizabeth Ada Hanscombe, the third child, of William & Sarah, who was born March 1846, NSW, Australia. Elizabeth went on to marry a Joseph Rolfe, who is possibly connected to John Rolfe and Pocahontas. As my line is of the Hanscombes of Pirton, I wondered if somehow it was possible to back track these people from Cambridgeshire to Hertfordshire. I have struck a brick wall with Samuel Hanscombe so any information would be gratefully received. Regards Rita Woodcock Norfolk UK From: Rita Woodcock Dear Jonty, Many thanks for posting to me all the replies to my email as regards Ted & Trish Burton. Many thanks to everyone who replied. It looks like it would be in order for me to correspond with Christine Crawley in Pirton, by letter, rather than email, which I think I will do. So many thanks and keep on with your wonderful Pirton site. Recently, with help, I have managed to trace my Kingsley line back to 1575. Regards and Happy New Year Rita
From David Walker 22nd December 2004 Dear Jonty, Regards, and a Merry Christmas to you.
From Derek Jarrett (Pirton Magazine Editor) 12th December 2004 Jonty, I think the link here is with Chris Crawley who works in the village shop (wife of Doug). I may be wrong, but I think her parents had to do with the Old Red Lion and her Mum's name was Burton! Regards,
From Doug Crawley 29th November Jonty Ted bought over a copy of your e-mail This is Chris's mum and Dad (Ted and Beatrice (Trixie) Burton), used to own the Red Lion. If you pass on our home address to them, they can correspond with Chris if they want (rather than by e-mail) Regards Doug Christine Crawley Reply from Angela Bristow November 29 I think Chris Crawley who lives in Bunyan Close (and works in the village shop) may be able to help as I believe her family lived in the house on the corner by the church that was originally the Red Lion but am not sure whether her family name was Burton. Regards, From Allan Grant November 27, 2004 Jonty, Ted Burton was one of my men in the tooling division at Vauxhall, he resided in Davis Crescent and his daughter serves it the P/O Shop now, married to Duggie. (Doug Crawley) Any use? Allan Grant November 26, 2004
Hi Jonty, I wonder if you can help. I am trying to find out about an Edward (Ted)
Burton and his wife Patricia (Trish) Burton. I have just found that my line crosses with the Burtons and wondered if they fitted in anywhere. Regards Rita
Hi Jonty, Have just entered your pirton site forwarded to me by a lady who picked up my HANSCOMBE search message on the Ancestry Message Boards. What a delightful and interesting site. I am researching my Gt Gt Grandparents namely:- ABRAHAM KINGSLEY ( I believe his parents were ABRAM / ANN KINGSLEY but not confirmed) who married ABIGAIL HANSCOMBE at PIRTON on 11th NOVEMBER 1854, daughter LAVINIA ELIZABETH KINGSLEY, Born DECEMBER 1865 PIRTON, Baptised 1st APRIL 1866 (This is my Gt Grandmother) If anyone has any information on either ABIGAIL HANSCOMBE or ABRAHAM KINGSLEY I would be very interested in hearing from them. Kind Regards..........Rita If you can help in any way or would simply
like to get in touch, please email or write at the address above
or via me (Jonty Wild) on jontywild@pirton.org.uk
