He originally came from the Forest of Dean & apparently
saw the photograph of a Pirton women in the paper, decided that was the
girl for him, so he came to Pirton to meet her and they married and
lived in Wellbury Cottage, probably 1940s |

A photograph that my (Patti Salter)
Grandmother Clara Harris nee CARTER, daughter of George CARTER and Ellen
GOLDSMITH, had kept amongst her possessions. Unfortunately I
don't know who these people actually are or the year it was taken but
could possibly be George and Ellen in Pirton, he died aged 25 January
1883 and was buried in St Mary's graveyard. |

Stan (Uncle to Gillian Bethell) is the last surviving member and still
lives in Pirton. Harry was the landlord of the pub, and Blackie was the
very first winner of the pumpkin growing competition back in 1965" |
